The festive Polish – Belgian concert, was organised in a co-operation with the Bielecki Art Foundation and the Warsaw University of Technology and was a part of the cycle of concerts known as “Big Music in a Small Hall”.
During the evening we listened to a few music pieces written by famous European composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart or Edvard Grieg. The musical compositions were performed by the Beethoven Academy Orchestra and the clarinet soloist Mr Eddy Vanoosthuyse, all under the direction of the outstanding Flemish conductor Mr Herman Engels.
HERMAN ENGELS conductor
Herman Engels has been second director at the BRTN radio choir in Brussels. In the Netherlands, he conducted and taught orchestral conducting at the Music Conservatories of Utrecht and The Hague. He has been conducting in Belgium as well as abroad. Among them were the Flanders Festival, Internationales Jugendfestspieltreffen Bayreuth , Easter Festival Prague, Music Spring Presov (SK).
Herman Engels is a regular guestconductor of the Slovak Sinfonietta (SK) and the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra (UK). He was "conductor in residence" of the Association of Christian Employers and Business Executives in Belgium (Flanders) during about fifteen concert seasons. He is the conductor of the Flemish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra.
Herman Engels has been awarded the “Médaille de Vermeil” of “Arts – Sciences – Lettres”, prize Académie Française, Paris and the “Medaglia d’ oro” , Istituto dei Studi Storici B. Pio IX, Roma. He also has been awarded the Fuga Trofee 2007 by the Union of Belgian Composers.
EDDY VANOOSTHUYSE clarinet
No one could be left unmoved after listening to a performance of the Belgian/Flemish clarinettist Eddy Vanoosthuyse. He is performing with important orchestras and composers throughout all European countries, as well as in Asia and America. He is scheduled regularly on international festivals.
His preference to chamber music is emphasized by the by the many concerts with a variety of excellent quartets. This way he has performed the quintet of Mozart over 50 times.
In 2009 Eddy Vanoosthuyse started his own chamber music ensemble, where the base is formed by the clarinet and a string quartet. He is the clarinet professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music Gent (University College, Gent) and a guest professor at numerous conservatories and universities.
He's been the principal clarinet of the Brussels Philharmonic/Flemish Radio orchestra since 1988. Before that, he was the soloist of the orchestra of the Opera of Flanders and soloist of the Flemish Opera respectively. His oeuvre is versatile: from Mozart to music of today and tomorrow.
