Umicore is an international materials technology group whose innovative and sustainable solutions support everyday life serving the automotive industry in particular with clean technologies. A key pillar of the company’s operations is its closed-loop business model, combining advanced technologies with environmental responsibility.
In Poland, Umicore has been producing emission-reducing catalysts in Nowa Ruda since 2015 and opened its cathode active materials plant for electric vehicles in Nysa in 2021.
Our Nysa facility plays a crucial role in the transition to clean mobility by supplying battery materials for lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles. Umicore actively supports its local community and organizes initiatives that promote a healthy lifestyle, education, and environmental protection. Reflecting our circular business model we asked residents to exchange certain types of waste for seedlings or, reflecting our activity, we made kids more aware of how batteries make a difference in our daily lives,” says Dariusz Jurczak, Managing Director at Umicore Nysa.
One such initiative was the "Tree for Recyclables" campaign, where Umicore partnered with local organizations to distribute 1,000 tree seedlings in exchange for recyclables. Residents who brought paper, used batteries, or electronic waste received fruit or forest tree seedlings, fostering both ecological awareness and community engagement.
Stimulating STEM education, Umicore’s "Batteries Recharge Our Everyday Life" program aims to inspire elementary students to explore technology, chemistry, and sustainable development, helping them understand the role of battery materials in our daily lives. Additionally, Umicore organized a children’s bike race with 140 participants, promoting fun and encouraging physical activity among the community's youngest members.
