The Belgian Business Chamber is proud to announce the upcoming exhibition of renowned Dutch artist Bas Coenegracht, titled “I Have More Souls Than One.” The exhibition will take place at MAD Art Gallery in Poznań from 31 January to 15 March 2025.
Exploring the Boundaries of Realism and Abstraction
Bas Coenegracht’s work is a masterful exploration of the human experience, straddling the line between realism and abstraction, imagination and reality. His paintings, rooted in photographic references and enriched by memory, delve into themes of liminality and human resilience. The exhibited works highlight figures navigating transitions—both internal and external—and reflect the timeless tension between hope and reality.
The artist himself describes his process as "an act of translation from thought or the imagined to the visual and the tactile," inviting viewers to engage deeply with the emotional landscapes he creates. His paintings are not only visually stunning but also thought-provoking, capturing the psychological nuances of his subjects.
About Bas Coenegracht
Born in the Netherlands in 1974, Bas Coenegracht studied art at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and ARCO in Lisbon. His work has been showcased in galleries across Europe, with a focus on contemporary urban landscapes. Coenegracht’s paintings juxtapose the rawness of nature with the fragility of human existence, exploring themes of closeness and distance, hope and catastrophe.
MAD Art Gallery: Bridging Art and Culture in Poznań
The MAD Art Gallery in Poznań is a collaborative extension of the Belgian-based Uitstalling Art Gallery. Located near the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts, it offers a unique platform for international artists, fostering collaboration with art schools and emerging talents. Situated strategically between Berlin and Warsaw, the gallery provides an ideal space for showcasing Belgian and European art on the global stage.
